It seems to me that Dr. MacDonald has conducted his research carefully and has come to some conclusions that, if controversial, are nevertheless worth equally careful consideration. Scientific knowledge is not often advanced when everyone agrees, unquestioningly, on the current paradigm because of the pressure of political expediency. If everyone is forced to agree to a particular ideoology or set of ideas, or historical interpretation by considerations of political expediency and the threat of coercive pressure brought to bear on those who dare to question, if not disagree, then a condition or intellectual environment such as that of Italy in the 1930s will exist. Better for us to have the freedom to do our research without fear of being proven wrong or right, and see where it leads us, and if others have better ideas, let them disagree and publish their findings. And let them openly debate their ideas in conference. And may the strongest argument win.
The actual results showed that the young votes weren't even needed for Obama to win. According to an MSNBC article, if the numbers were re-run as if there were no voters under 30, the only states that would switch to Republican presidential candidate John McCain are Indiana and North Carolina. Without younger voters, Obama would still have won the 270 electoral votes he needs to become the next president.Race, however, WAS crucial. Obama received 24% of his votes from black voters, many of them first-time voters. Without the black voters, Obama would have lost the election.

I started taking the bus recently too. I have my own car and everything and I've been driving myself to school for the past 5-6 years (that includes high school) so this is a drastic change for me. Plus, I feel so much more "cultured" and I see Long Beach in a different light because of the alternate form of transportation. I sorta like I'm a tourist in a whole new city. And it's kind of embarrassing when you're 20 and you tell people you don't know how to take a bus.
I'm not sure if I totally agree with your argument, but I agree that oftentimes pro-choicers bypass some of the more difficult questions abortion poses. Although I believe that abortion should be legal, I have a hard time believing that, as you point out, life begins at "8 weeks." A person consists of more than just "major organs," our existence on this planet has a complexity to it beyond just what our bodies allow us. Many may argue that this is the "soul," but whatever it may be it is something that we have not yet been able to emperically study. Thus, we have no idea when or how it begins. Furthermore, many who believe that abortion should be legal often qualify their argument by conceeding that third trimester abortion is wrong. The only reason they believe this is because the fetus at this point looks too much like a baby to be killed. If you believe that life begins at birth, and abortion is not ending a life, you should be consistant and support the termination of a fetus all the way until it is born. Or conceed and admit that, although it is a legally recognized choice, it is ultimately murder.
Well, I can concur that Mauricio got himself a reprieve and a lifeline from the invite. Aren't you bloody lucky, Ingrassia.... So now it will be his responsibility to not rebuild but reload next season. One can only hope that next year will be the year that the wedding isn't crashed at the last with the new group of freshmen coming through.Godspeed and Go Beach, seniors. We salute your efforts during your stay here and wish you well.
